Egyptian Diplomatic Chief Calls On Hamas to Agree to Trump's Gaza Proposal and Disarm
Egypt and Qatar are working on diplomatic moves to urge Hamas to comply with the former US president's ultimatum to stop the hostilities in the Gaza Strip, as stated by Egypt's top diplomat.
Mounting Pressure on Hamas
Badr Abdelatty stated that the opportunity is now for Hamas to surrender arms and refrain from offering Israel any pretext to persist in its offensive in the region, where numerous civilians were lost their lives on Friday.
“Hamas should not be used as an excuse for the relentless killing of innocents, a situation that has worsened significantly since last year,” the minister said.
He noted that Egypt is “in close contact with Qatar and Turkey to persuade Hamas to agree to the terms”.
Details of the Peace Plan
The initiative would demand the group to:
- Surrender weapons and exit politics
- Return the captives in custody from the 2023 attack, including two dozen are presumed to be still alive
As part of the deal, Israeli authorities would:
- Gradually withdraw its forces from Gaza
- Be replaced by an global peacekeeping unit
- Support a transitional authority headed by the former president
Experts believe that the proposal would effectively terminate the group's role as an armed Palestinian resistance group, while the Israeli side would give little ground.
Internal Divisions within the Faction
The organization is divided over the appropriate answer, with certain officials seeking additional time to consider the deal.
The head of Hamas’s military wing has objected to the proposal, considering it a move to eradicate Hamas whether or not they agree.
Sources close to the group suggest that Hamas is expected to request changes regarding:
- Disarmament terms
- Continued presence of military in the area
- Safeguards that the group’s leadership will not be attacked
Gaza Situation Deteriorates
Israeli forces persisted in its military actions in the northern area and bombardment across the wider strip on the recent day, killing two dozen individuals.
Nearly a dozen of the casualties were in Gaza City, while the remaining died in the south, with three in an Israeli drone strike in al-Masawi, which had been previously designated a protected space.
The Israeli military issued its last evacuation order for Gaza City on Wednesday, with the top defense official announcing that anyone remaining would be deemed affiliated with armed groups, a classification that violates humanitarian standards.
Numerous of civilians remain stranded in the urban area, including those who cannot afford the trip to the south, which is said to cost over a thousand dollars.
“Countless individuals are forced to sleep outdoors while seeking refuge,” commented a Red Cross spokesperson.
The UN reported that there is nowhere secure for those escaping the city, as areas declared as protected spaces in the south are dangerous.
James Elder described the idea of secure areas as “absurd”, noting that airstrikes are used with “chilling predictability” and schools designated as refuges are frequently demolished.
Healthcare System under Extreme Pressure
Healthcare centers in southern Gaza are overwhelmed, with the Red Cross field hospital serving significantly beyond its intended capacity.
Recently, one of the last functioning hospitals received 27 bodies of people shot dead by the troops.
Dr Ahmad al-Farra referred to the circumstances as “very hard”.
Israeli forces has been reported as attacking hospitals and medical workers, with healthcare professional said to be “abducted” while traveling to work in the area.
Israel has previously claimed that arrested medical officials had links with Hamas, though without providing evidence.
Fatalities from Israel’s war in the strip has reached more than sixty-two thousand civilians killed and about 170,000 wounded, per the Gaza health authority.
