Football Roundup: Broncos Narrowly Beat Struggling Jets in Low-Scoring Battle
In a low-scoring contest on Sunday, the Broncos managed to secure a 13-11 victory over the winless New York Jets. Signal-caller Bo Nix threw an early scoring strike and specialist Wil Lutz kicked the game-winning go-ahead field goal to secure the ugly win.
Defensive Display Seals Game
Despite recording nine sacks against Jets QB Justin Fields, the Broncos were behind 11-10 following giving up a two-point play in the second half. Interestingly, the Jets could only produce just 82 offensive yards during the entire game.
Nix, who went 19 of 30 passes for 174 yards, led a critical 12-play, 65-yard possession that culminated in Lutz's short field goal with just over five minutes remaining.
Record Struggles for Jets Attack
Despite their horrendous offensive display, the Jets maintained the ball with a opportunity to drive for a possible victory. However Fields was sacked on fourth down from the Denver 44 when head coach Aaron Glenn opted to go for it rather than sending out kicker Nick Folk for a difficult field-goal attempt.
Fields struggled throughout, completing just 9 of 17 attempts for 45 yards. New York ended up with negative ten passing yards, the lowest in any contest since 1998.
"The aerial attack was completely absent," the coach commented following the contest.
