Manchester United Boss Amorim Confesses He Can't Avoid Poor Results
Man Utd head coach Ruben Amorim endures the pressure during their three-one loss at Brentford
Man Utd head coach Ruben Amorim admits he cannot hide from his troubling record and believes it is normal that club legends are criticizing him.
On Tuesday, United's record scorer Wayne Rooney stated on his show that "the spirit has gone" from his old club.
The Portuguese manager has secured just eighteen wins from his forty-nine games in charge, including nine out of 33 in the Premier League, where he has yet to achieve two consecutive wins.
Although high-level club sources are insistent that Sir Jim Ratcliffe remains supportive the manager, failure to overcome newly promoted Sunderland on the weekend will trigger renewed speculation about his future heading into the upcoming two-week international break.
"This is expected," stated the Portuguese manager, when questioned about Rooney's comments. "One cannot escape from the results."
"Furthermore you have the baggage from the previous campaign, [although] that period for me doesn't matter."
Fan Reaction and Current Situation
United's followers remained behind their manager following the previous campaign's poor performance, when they finished 15th in the table - their worst showing since the 1973/74 demotion season - and were beaten in the Europa League final, in the belief that the current campaign would be significantly improved.
Amorim promised fans the situation would get better because he had more time to prepare with his squad without the midweek commitment of European football.
However is not how the initial six matches have unfolded as Manchester United have suffered 3 losses already and are currently 14th in the table.
Coach's Reaction to Questions
When questioned what guarantees he could provide followers that the position will get better, Amorim stated: "It's not time to say, it is the time to demonstrate."
"I review the fixtures in the current campaign and, for me, they are totally different, but I have nothing to comment at the current time."
