Unveiling an Unusual Steam Game Trial: Playing as a Poop on a Quest to Arrive at the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and gamers have discovered a variety of engaging independent titles. However, one is particularly notable for its unconventional concept. Called Unko Technica, this retro-inspired jumping adventure lets you play a protagonist that is actually a turd attempting to travel to a toilet. For those curious, "Unko" means "poop."

The gameplay is simple: you only need a single jump button. Across 150 stages, you'll face mini-bosses and access a market to purchase outfits for your fecal avatar.

Execute your actions with caution, as a mistake forces restarting the level. Jump off floating orbs to propel your character upward, traverse disappearing surfaces, and activate triggers to unlock hidden paths. Collect UN-KOINS to purchase tougher stages in which the action intensifies.

Visually, the experience shows off neon level designs and an amazing background music. Its minimalist visual style featuring morphing basic polygons could recall gamers of beloved games like Earthbound.

Although difficult to name other games where you play as a piece of feces, gaming often incorporated fecal matter. For example, in Death Stranding, you can craft throwables from character excrement. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use feces as fertilizer. Unsurprisingly, such content appears a lot in Obsidian's South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.

Despite its goofy idea, Unko Technica has already garnered notable awards, including being named best at a major publisher's game competition in 2023. The demo is available at present on Steam, with the full game scheduled to arrive on PC this November.
